We entered Canada through Detroit/Windsor and drove primarily along the Talbot Trail, where we saw...
...plenty of windmills...
...an interesting landscape (Iona)...
...and the Leamington Tomato info booth (closed).
Of course, we veered off this trail often, stopping in...
...Chatham-Kent with its many murals...
...Sparta - home of Winter Wheat...
...where folk art filled the forest...
...St. Thomas, where Jumbo met a horrible fate...
...and Port Stanley...
...where we stayed two nights at the Windjammer Inn...
...enjoying the Inn's fine fisherman breakfast (with perch)...
...while also enjoying Port Stanley's charm...
...and humor (humour, for you Canadians).
We also got Hewitt's goat milk ice cream in Hagersville...
...a pleasant dessert after a fish (walleye) and chips lunch.

ReplyDeleteOoo this was an awesome Idea! I will be in Niagara SUnday and Monday andI have been there many many times but Have never done the touristy things so I am really looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteThe reason I searched for this is my wife and I plan on making about the same trip. We live just south of Sandusky, Oh. (cedar point). We are leaving on July 3 and staying @ the Park Inn Hotel to catch a Mudhens game Jul 4 in Toledo. Then from there to Windsor to visit my wife's family, up along the lake edge stopping wherever we feel like it all the way to Toronto
ReplyDeletewhere we will go shopping, visit museums, go up in the CN tower/needle and spend at least 1 full day, maybe 2. Then off to Niagra where we honeymooned in 1978 (we were broke, stupid and
full of love). Going into New York and then to Pennsylvania we will stop and spend 1-2 days at
Allegheny National Forest, then it's back home along backroads mostly and traveling along the ohio canal route(s). We plan on a week more/less and all cell phones ARE OFF! No kids, No pets,
just us!
Have a great time! We definitely did!
